Watercolor Journaling Workshop Cinque Terre, Italy
May 27 - June 3, 2017
We artists see things differently. When we travel we want to absorb all that is going on around us and capture the scene forever. We don’t just snap a photo and move on, we want to stop and paint a painting.
But hauling art supplies, easel, wet paints etc, is a pain. When you travel with me you will bring a Watercolor Journal, small watercolor field kit palette, brushes and ink pens. With these tools (all of which fit in a small backpack or shoulder bag) you will learn to create your very own “Story Book” of your trip. (Even beginners can do this!)
Each day we will find a lovely location with a shady spot to sit, sketch the scene in front of us, and absorb the sounds and aromas around us. I will work with each of you individually to help you learn to capture the scene in your own unique way in a watercolor sketch. You may want to add your thoughts in writing or perhaps collage some small treasures making each page a record of your trip. You will return home with a lovely Story Book filled with memories of your trip and a new way of looking at the world.

“Cinque Terre” translates to “five lands” and is the name given to the five tiny villages on the Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy. They are situated in a Marine Sanctuary which protects their tiny harbors and the sea around them from intrusion by cruse ships. In fact the only boats you will see are the colorful little wooden boats that belong to the locals and one ferry that carries people from one village to the next. We will be traveling between the villages by train each day, but there is a hiking trail that runs the entire length of the coast from Riomaggorie to Monterosso for those who like to hike. The views of the sea and the tiny villages from the trail are spectacular! My favorite place to stay in the Cinque Terre is Pensione Sorriso because it is located in tiny Vernazza which affords the opportunity to absorb the real culture of the Cinque Terre.
